The Virginia Glee Club’s Tour of the West Coast; concert in collaboration with SPU Men's Choir is at 7:00 p.m., Sat., March 3 at First Free Methodist Church, Seattle
Long regarded as one of the top collegiate men’s choruses in the country, the 141-year-old Virginia Glee Club from the University of Virginia will tour the West Coast in March 2012. The tour begins in Seattle, WA, with a 7:00 p.m. Concert, Saturday March 3rd at First Free Methodist Church.
The Seattle Pacific University Men’s Choir, directed by Ken Pendergrass, will also share the program with the Glee Club.
The tour concert will include a wide range of pieces, including sacred music, Glee Club classics, folk songs, spirituals and songs of the University of Virginia. Featured composers include Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Franz Biebl, G. F. Handel, P.D.Q. Bach, Leonard Cohen and George Harrison.
The group is conducted by Frank Albinder, who also directs the
Washington Men’s Camerata and Woodley Ensemble in Washington DC.
Mr. Albinder came to DC from the internationally-renowned male vocal ensemble Chanticleer, where he served as singer, associate conductor and acting director. During his 11-year tenure with Chanticleer, he appears on 19 of the ensemble’s recordings, including Wondrous Love, which was recorded under his direction, and the Grammy Award-winning Colors of Love, for which he designed the concept and chose the repertoire.
As the Glee Club enters its 141st season, it continues to evolve, but its goals remain the same: to foster lifelong friendships in a spirit of brotherhood, and to share the beauty of choral music with audiences at home and on the road. For more information, contact, Ken Pendergrass.
